If you’re not an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen but you have a family member who is, you’ll be able to use any of the following to prove identity:

A valid passport
A biometric residence card
A biometric residence permit

If you are applying to the EU Settlement Scheme with a sponsor you will also have to provide evidence of your relationship. You’ll be able to use the following to prove relationship:
Married/Civil partners can use a valid marriage/civil partnership certificate, or a relevant document issued under the EEA Regulations as the married/civil partner of the EU citizen

To apply, as you have both had no residency in the UK, you must be present in the UK to apply. Please use the following link:

When you apply, you can either:
use the ‘EU Exit: ID Document Check’ app to scan your document and send your photo - you need to use an Android phone to do this (As your partner is a non-EU family member, you must have a UK issued biometric residence card to verify your ID using the app).
send your document by post, and upload your photo using the online application (you can take this yourself)

You can use the ‘EU Exit: ID Document Check’ app to verify your identity. This is available on Android and iPhone 8 and above devices. You can use a family member/friend’s device for the step of verifying your identity. There are no security risks in doing this as your data is not stored on the device.

Non-EU nationals who do not have a biometric residence card, will be asked to make an appointment at a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) service point to provide their biometric information (fingerprints and a photo, or a photo if you’re under 5 years of age when applying to the EU Settlement Scheme.

The deadline for applying will be 30 June 2021, or 31 December 2020 if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

Send your document by post

You must send your document by post if you have a:

non-EU or EEA passport
biometric residence permit
non-biometric ID card

If you have any other identity document, you can send it in the post if you cannot use the ‘ID Document Check’ app.

You’ll get your document back as soon as it has been scanned. This could be before you get your decision.
